Springing Aunt From Nursing Home

My Aunt has been in the nursing home since falling and breaking her shoulder right before Christmas and then having surgery to repair it. She’s at the point where she wants out. The surgeon keeps saying that he needs to keep an eye via x-rays on her shoulder, but that she’s progressing well. So far the x-rays have gone from once a week to every two weeks.

Why does she have to stay in the nursing home just for x-rays? She is able to get up in and out of her bed by herself now. She is able to eat on her own and care for her toileting needs. So my Mom is going to visit the surgeon in person tomorrow to make her case that my Aunt can go home.

She’ll be getting home health and probably more help if needed. The physical and occupational therapy can also continue at home. She is getting depressed being away from her own home. I don’t blame her at all.

I think if she’s well enough to take reasonable care of herself at home, then they should let your aunt go home. Nursing homes are horribly depressing places, to say the least, and I’m sure she’d feel much better at her own home. Good luck getting her out of there!

They can charge more if she’s in the home which is why they are probably keeping her there.
