Taking In The View

In my effort to feel better physically, I’m trying to find things to do that don’t take much effort but can keep me happy and lessen stress and the sadness I’m feeling about being cooped up in the house. I did this when I was very sick and forgot about it. But this morning while I was trying to eat breakfast, I looked out the window and it came back to me.

I used to watch birds that came to visit us in our yard because of the bird feeders we had. We don’t have feeders any more, so no more bird watching. I lost interest in looking at the yard because there’s not much to see now. But this morning, my thoughts changed. I saw our “outdoor” cat, Lacy resting under a tree. She slowly started to stretch. As I watched she began to curl up and get into a hunting position. She must have found a lizard, because she crouched low to the ground and began her chase.

As I watched I found myself relaxing and enjoying myself. I noticed the blades of grass starting to come up in a few area, the sun shining on the trampoline, the knots in the wooden gate and I was lost in the view.

Sounds like a great way to start the morning. So you can already see grass growing again?! What I wouldn’t give to see grass again.

I think to be able to get enjoyment from the little things in life is what keeps us going. I rarely have big joyful events but yesterday when the temperature reached 55 and I could enjoy being outside I was happy. I can dream of spring and new flowers and the eventual hot weather I love.
