Advice Request

I got a phone call today from a friend. We were talking about our families and how things have been going since the start of the new year. She began talking about resolutions. I told her that I really didn’t make any since I don’t believe in them. But I shared about how I am working on changing my eating habits.

She is trying to lose weight too. When I told her that I am not on a diet but am trying to eat more healthy foods, less processed foods and less sweets, she shared that she is trying the Atkins Diet. I know I couldn’t do that one although it is very tempting.

She said that she is also searching the internet for the best diet pill to use. I told her that I’m sure that I wouldn’t be able to take any more pills because of all of the prescriptions I’m on. Gosh, why couldn’t I take the “easy” way out?

I tried Atkins for a day. It didn’t last the entire day. I have PCOS and so I have to be regulated by medication that Type 2 diabetics take. Atkins really did a number on me and I didn’t realize it would. So you’re not alone, I can’t take the easy way out either even when it comes to diets that seem to work or pills. I so wish I could!

I did the Atkins Diet many a year ago. It worked for me. I lost a bunch of weight, but it just felt wrong not being able to dig into fruits and veggies any time I wanted. I was always snacking on cheese and meat sticks & olives & stuff like that.

I’ve thought about taking Alli, but don’t know enough about it. I wish there was an easy way out! Good for you for cutting back on the junk.

The Atkins Diet works very well for me when I can stick to it but the whole not having bread thing really gets to me when I walk into a grocery store with a bakery and the place is filled with the scent of fresh baked bread. I begin salivating right there!

South Beach is along the same lines but not as restrictive so if you really want to try something – try that!

Ranee, I really don’t think there is ever an “easy” way out of anything. I’m learning, slowly but surely.

Retro Heather, that’s what scares me about that diet, no fruit or veggies which I love.

Linda, I had no idea that there was no bread allowed in Atkins. I’d never be able to do that. I love bread!

I know about the sure way to lose weight – works for me and many other people I know – and it only requires you to avoid two things: sugar (replace it with agave syrup) and wheat (replace with brown rice pasta and flour, quinoa flour and/or spelt flour. No starving or counting calories required – and the extra pounds just melt away… :)
