• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

  • The ‘O, My’ in Tonisllectomy and Adenoinectomy Book

January 17th, 2009 by Connie Roberts

We had a scare about 6 months ago were we thought that Peanut would need to have her tonsils removed. Thankfully it turned out that it wasn’t necessary. But we were very worried as you can imagine. If this surgery was to take place, I would want to have this book, The “O, MY” in Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy: how to prepare your child for surgery, a parent’s manual by Laurie Zelinger PH.D.

the-o-my-in-tonsillectomy-adenoidectomy-how-to-prepare-your-child-for-surgery-a-parents-manualThe book helps parents get ready for the unknown. It also provides information and explanations that you can pass along to your child. There is a section that you can read to your child, a checklist for the day of surgery and a few days after and an organizer for parents to write in doctors, hospital, insurance companies, pharmacy phone numbers.

This book helps to reassure parents from the day of the decision to allow your child have this surgery to after the surgery itself. It teaches you how to speak to your child about the tonsillectomy even including information about not talking about it to your child until you are settled emotionally yourself.

There is a great deal of information included in this book. I’m not sure what I like better, the functional or the emotional. Both are necessary and helpful. This book includes the advice you want at hand to check with while you’re waiting for the surgery date and post-surgery too.

I wonder if they have a book like that for umbilical hernia surgery! My son has to go in to have his repaired at the end of this month and I’ve started prepping him emotionally for it. So far, he seems okay but I know as it gets closer, he’ll feel anxious and so will I!!!

I’m glad your daughter didn’t end up needing surgery!

Great idea! I used to love reading situational books when I was a kid. They made so much more sense to me than my talks with my parents did.
