My Aunt who is in a Rehab Center, recovering from a broken shoulder and resulting surgery is getting better each day. She still has a long road ahead of her, but she has had her staples removed and is now using her right arm and hand (not the broken one and not her dominant one) better too. We were very concerned about this but I guess when you are forced to make due, your body does. I teased her that when she is able to use her left arm again that I’d get her two Hamilton watches, one for each arm.
When my Mom and I visit, we always check in with the nurses. We usually have questions for them and today was no difference. We felt a bit uncomfortable today because the nurses were very busy. After we got our concerns taken care of, I had to use the restroom. When I came out, one of the nurses pulled me aside. She told me not to worry about asking them questions. She told me that they are happy to help us and that they understand that we are doing it out of concern for my Aunt. She said that she and the other nurses feel badly when family don’t ask questions because it shows a lack of concern.
She also told me that my Aunt is a lovely person and that she could understand how worried we are about her. This made me feel so good. What a lovely thing to do, to take the time to talk to me and ease my concerns. It also showed me that the staff really gets to know the patients there.

Connie, that was so nice of the nurse to say that to you!
Every night when you leave Twitter, I see you tweet, “Do something nice for someone.” I truly believe, ‘What goes around, comes around’ – and you bring yourself your own good karma by writing that every night!

I am glad the day staff is so caring. We had mom in Rehab after a stroke, she could not speak nor take care of herself. We found serious issues with night staff and had mom transferred to another Rehab. We found she was not being changed, or turned, food stuff left on her and her clothes at sleep time. Take the time to go in on second shift and 3rd shift. To peek in on Auntie to see how smooth things are at different times. It dosent hurt to check…
That was so sweet of that nurse to pull you aside and put you at ease about your questions and concern for your aunt!!!
BTW, I found that Vaseline lotion you had mentioned in a previous post and WOW!!! My hands are looking so much better in just a couple days!

Heather, you’re making me blush. Thanks for being so sweet and kind.
Lisa, that is very good advice. I will definitely go ahead and try that.
Helene, It really was nice of her to talk to me. I’m glad you found the Vaseline Clinical Therapy Lotion and it’s working for you.
Oh, it’s wonderful that your aunt is getting such wonderful care!
