Twittering With Mom It Forward
Tonight was GNO (Girls Night Out) on Twitter. It’s the weekly party, get together, networking time that the Mom It Forward gang holds. I look forward to this time each week. I love chatting with other women that I’ve come to know better and some that I’ve come to know through Mom It Forward. I learn new things as well. Tonight’s topic was Social Networking with JessicaKnows.
It was one of our busiest nights and the tweets were flying! It was a bit hard to keep up even if you used Tweetgrid and it’s linear motion. I plan on catching up with all of the information later so I can really digest it all.
One of the things I did learn was to chose three Social Networks and focus on them. Being involved in too many SN’s can be overwhelming and cause you to not put your best foot forward. JessicaKnows suggested Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. I’m on all three but haven’t been putting much effort into LinkedIn. I really need to work on my bios on all three sites too.
You can become a part of Mom It Forward by visiting the website and to RSVP for GNO nights and by joining our Facebook page. We’re looking to do more than just tweet parties. We’re looking into becoming a national organization “dedicated to strengthening families and communities by first strengthening moms. Mom It Forward empowers women to achieve success through service, strength, and socializing. By strengthening families and communities, Mom It Forward is changing the world one mom at a time.”

You know, I just never got Twitter. I have an account and did a couple of updates, but I just don’t get it. I think it makes sense when you’re on the go a lot, maybe? Like, if you Twitter from your phone or laptop or whatever? But when I’m in front of my computer all day, Twittering doesn’t seem to make sense to me so I stopped doing updates.
I think I’m missing the big picture.

I second the motion to Creative Junkie. I also don’t really quite get it.
Anyway I wanna wish you a Happy New Year! Best wishes for this year.

I agree with Jade and Creative Junkie but I also have to commend you on your efforts for this national organization, it sounds great. This sounds like something you could take global… Good luck, regards!

CJ, I twitter while I’m working. I use it as a reward for getting some work done. I’ll write a post and then tweet for a while. I’ve also added my blog posts so they will automatically add to Twitter as I post.

Happy New Year to you too Jade! I’ve made a lot of friends on Twitter. It just takes some time.

Chicago Breast Cancer, I’m not to be commended at all. I’m just part of this group but hope to spread the word and get more people involved. Will you help us too?

I think everyone here that says they don’t get Twitter, just did.
It is what you make it.
When I first joined almost 2 years ago, it was because that was the platform that all my geek buddies were on & I didn’t want to miss what they knew.
When I went corporate, it was the best way to stay connected to them on a daily basis. I chatted & shared with the people I REALLY wanted to work with.
When I was laid off (co. has since gone under) I Tweeted that I no longer had a job & by the time I left the parking lot, I had a job offer & 3 meetings the next day. One with who I am now working for: TSheets.
Again, it is what you make it.
I love the group discussions that are forming, it is getting people from all walks of life & all over the world connected…can get any better than that!

Jen, what an incredible recommendation for Twitter. It is not only a “hangout” but a real social networking site that can help you accomplish many things. Happy to learn that you found a job through Twitter. Looking forward to tweeting with you even more.
