Hubby and I always joke that we need to take out a loan for this time of year. If you read my last post, you’ll see that December is a costly time for us. January continues on with our older daughter’s birthday. So we start to look for sale items for her gifts now and after Christmas.
Having two children with birthdays close to Christmas makes us try to go out of our way to make their special days not blend in with the big special day we celebrate. I don’t mean that we spoil them with presents but we do want them to know that their birthdays are not “afterthoughts”.
One of the things we do is start their day off with a special card or in the case of Lady Ali, a phone call. This way they know that we are thinking of them throughout the day. For Peanut, we’ve decided, along with her now that she’s older, to have her party in January so more friends can attend. It also makes it easier for everyone involved. Of course Lady Ali won’t be here for her birthday so we’ll find another way to celebrate.
I was thinking of getting her a number of inexpensive gifts so that she can have a few to open. Maybe even mail some a few days in advance of her birthday. I found some DVD’s that are only in the $5 – $7 range. I’m thinking about getting Austin Powers in Goldmember. She’s a big fan of this movie and the original. And this will help us be able to afford a bunch of gifts for her and not spend a lot.
I’ll be doing my birthday plans after Christmas though, thank you very much.

Wow, you sure do have a lot of dates to remember this month!! I think your kids will appreciate the extra thought you put into their birthdays since they are so close to Christmas. My mom’s b-day is the day after Christmas and it often gets overlooked.
Helenes last blog post..Me….pregnant again? This HAS to be a joke, right?
I just realized that we only have one birthday in December in our family. WHEW! It’s got to be hard to schedule everything like that around the holidays. Good for you for coming up with some good ideas.

We don’t really have too many December birthdays in our family – just my Aunt Mary who was born on Christmas day. I always thought it had to be tough to share your birthday with Jesus but then again – at least you know that no one is going to forget the date!

Helene, it’s often that way with “Christmas birthdays”. That’s why we go a little overboard with my daughters.
I try to come up with ideas, Andrea. As it gets close to my youngest daughter’s party that’s when the real fun begins!
I like that line of thinking Linda! I was supposed to have my dd on New Year’s Eve. But I’m glad her birthday isn’t on a real holiday.
