If you like books about relationships, travel, adventure with a lot of witty humor, Queen of the Road is on your “must read” list. Doreen Orion, has written about her and her husband’s travel on a converted bus through 47 states.
Before their trip, Doreen had to be unwittingly cajoled into agreeing to going along with this totally out of character trip. Both she and her husband, Tim are psychiatrists. They are set in their ways. Doreen, a self proclaimed princess, works from home reviewing insurance claims, writes a blog and shops incessantly on the internet. She doesn’t leave the house except to get her mail and lives in her pj’s.
Tim, or Project Nerd, as she calls him, has a practice seeing patients. He is a kind, caring man who enjoys work, nature and more work at home. But he feels that something is missing. When he begins to learn about converted buses as a means of traveling, like RV’s, he gets the bug. His mission is to get Doreen to come along for the adventure.
Doreen reluctantly agrees and learns that she has bus phobia, which she tries to cure by making and drinking different alcoholic drinks every chance she gets. You can find the recipes for these drinks in the book and on the Queen of Road website.
There’s really funny stories told by Doreen as they travel across the US. At a nudist RV camp, they learn that you do wear shoes and earrings if you like, and if you’re the handyman, you wear a tool belt. There’s no worries about plumber’s crack either.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and so did others who have read it. The NY Post says, “A Charles Kuralt-Albert Brooks-style romp where they meet up with nudists, robbers and more. Required Reading.” Read about it from other bloggers on this blog book tour:

I’m an avid reader, and this sounds like a fun, quick read. Though I’m pretty sure my husband and I could never do the same thing without one of us being left on the side of the road somewhere. Haha.

Great review Connie! I loved this book so much, and have since talked a bit with Doreen on Facebook. She’s just as funny and witty there as she is in her book.

I have heard nothing but good things about this book and it sounds like a book both my wife and I would enjoy reading. Great review!

corrin, I hope you do read the book and see more about how Doreen’s and her husband’s relationship changed. That’s all I say without giving up a lot of the plot.
Julie, Thanks! I’m going to see if I can find Doreen on Facebook too. I enjoy her kind of humor.
Interesting review, might pass this onto my wife though, as this sounds more like her type of book.
I don’t know, Owen the humor is good for both men and women. The author adds a lot of her husband’s point of view in there too. Be brave and give it a try!
This looks like a really fun book and the first time I take some time off again for reading and relaxing, this is going to be one of the books I’m going to read – for sure!

great review. i’m always looking for new books to read. i’ll have to add this one to my list.
I think this must be an awesome book. Putting it on my birthday wish list.
daria, you won’t need much time to read it. It’s that good.
It is an awesome book Karen, one of the best I’ve read in a long time.
This is the second review I’ve read about this book – the first being Julie’s. It sounds so great! I’m definitely going to have to check it out!
Sadie, there’s a blog tour going on but I can assure you this book had me laughing so much my husband thought I lost it.
I’m glad you liked the book as well! It sounds hilarious.

I read about this book on another review a few days ago. Sounds like a really great book and I’ll be checking it out after the semester.
Lauren, It’s just a wonderful book. I hope that you’ll check it out!
Dore’, perfect for you to read and wind down with. You’ll love it, I promise!
Great review.
I wish I could sit on a beach & read for days in a row (in between umbrella drinks that is) but right now, it literally takes me months to read a book due to time…but once I commit to a book I will read. Thanks for the review.

Jen, believe me I am the same way lately, but once you pick up this book it’s hard to put it down.
I think one of my favorite parts was how her husband tricked her into dating him, lol. I related to her a lot, with things like not wanting to go outdoors.
It looks good.
That was funny Qtpies. And I relate to her too. I loved that she mentioned blogging and continue to have a blog.
