Votes Needed Win A Wii From ClassyMommy
November 17th, 2008 by Connie Roberts*CONTEST ENDED*
There’s a popularity contest going on over at ClassyMommy blog to win Wii. I don’t like popularity contests, never have, never will. But, I’ve made an exception to my rule because I want to do something special with this prize.
I’m going to put the Wii up for auction on eBay and donate all the proceeds to my favorite charity, Disabled Online Users Association, DOUA. This group helps people with all kinds of disabilities to learn how to work online. They mainly teach people how to sell on eBay but have branched out to teaching people to start their own websites, sell on Amazon, Etsy and other online venues. I have been helping members learn about the world of blogging there.
I have done other charity auctions for DOUA on eBay before and being able to give back to them is the best feeling. I do this because they helped me get my life back after becoming disabled due to multiple chronic illnesses and being unable to work outside the home. I have a new outlook on life because of them. I am now a professional blogger because of them.
Help me win this Wii by voting for me at ClassyMommy’s contest, click on Connie Roberts ConnieFoggles. It would be great if you would tweet about this for me and tell everyone you know about why I’m doing this too.
I can only offer you my thanks. And a huge thank you to ClassyMommy for the contest in the first place.
I love comments! If you like what you've read and want to stay "in the know" why not sign up for my RSS feed? If you're already a subscriber, thank you.
I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

I understand you wanting to do this – but I feel the same way about this that I did about the other “help me win” post on momsdot.com – your objective is noble, but your method is not.
How about you actually start a donation drive for your favorite charity? Or if you really think it’s important? Contact Colleen at ClassyMommy and see if she’ll help.
Surprisingly, we actually have some resources that might help out a lot more. Certainly, a lot more than a WII auctioned off will garner.
I know that Classmommy alone donated $1k to the peanutbutterproject as part of Blog Action Day.
You want to do a good deed? Then do it right. If you don’t want a WII – then don’t enter a contest that rewards one… if you want help raising funds? Just ask.

Lucretia, While I understand your point, what is so different from what I’m doing vs. others who blog about this and offer prizes in return for votes? Plus, there are plenty of people that enter contests in order to give the prize away. I’ve had them enter my contests and have no issue with that. Who am I to say what someone is to do with a prize they win?
I have been raising money for DOUA for about 4 years. This is a small non-profit and every penny counts. If I have a chance to earn money for them, I’ll take it. I’ve written posts about them, have them on my blogroll and provide them as a resource for people who need assistance or can offer assistance, and/or donate money or time. I also have help run a Squidoo group and do any other types of promotion for them that I can.
Thank you for the advice about Classymommy. I will take you up on that too.

Thanks witchypoo. I guess it’s not kosher to be honest about what you plan on doing with a prize, not is it cool to try to do something nice.
November 17th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Whoa? Lucretia has a point, but a donation IS a donation after all? And I happen to know Ms. Foggles does a LOT for a lot of good groups and such…so if this works as another way to donate, then GREAT!
And um…you did mention this was an exception to your rule about the VOTE for me posts.
I’m against those types more because they are so blatantly about getting the host site hits…I guess I’m missing the whole social media, blogging point sometimes.
And do I want you to visit my site! Heck yes!. But because you expect there to be REAL content there, you know?
That’s my rant.
November 17th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
So well said Carissa and thank you for your rant.
November 17th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Connie I applaud what you’re doing. At least you’re trying to do something nice without pimping out other prizes just to get votes. If you win it’s your prize to do as you see fit with, and no one has a right to tell you otherwise.

Ignore the contest police. You’re allowed to do whatever you want with the prize and I think it’s bizarre that you should get grief over it. I don’t see how what you’re doing is worse than spamming your followers over and over every 5 minutes to get their vote. People who live in glass houses… and I agree that wooing with prizes for votes is ultra shady. I would prefer not to have a popularity contest… it would have been nicer to receive one entry for each vote.

Thanks Christy. Yes popularity contests are hard for those of us who are rebels. But as they say, it’s the thought that counts. Maybe people will see the honesty here and who knows, the odds may be in my favor.

Go for it Connie! Good luck. I am going to vote for you right now. It’s a good cause and the world is lucky to have people like you to help support the causes! i hope you win!
Don’t worry about the haters. They are a part of life and something that will always be here…

Ok I found it and VOTED! Just put a blog post up about it at: DannaCrawford.com Hugzz and Blessings to you my dear friend!!! xo

You’ve got my vote. I question the popularity angle of the contest to begin with. If it’s truly a popularity contest, I think you’re going at it from the best angle – your sincere, giving intentions are what’s going to make you popular. Good for you.
You’ve never flooded my inbox with requests such as this in the past, unlike others I’ve encountered. You haven’t reached out to all your networks on NUMEROUS occasions asking for votes for this or that. You aren’t acting in any questionable ways. I totally hope you end up being the most popular in the end, Connie!

Connie,
Thank you for your continued support of the Disabled Online Users Association. We appreciate all you’ve done for us in the past, and all that you will do for us in the future. You’re an amazing lady!

As a member of the DOUA team, I also want to send my heartfelt thanks for all that you do! Not just for us. You’re a real winner in my book, Connie!

Who is this Lucritia creature? My God, she’s ridiculous! I’ve never been to the contest website and doubt now that I’ll visit it. What a stupid idea for a giveaway. And to be yacked at by the witch on her broom that has come to ridicule your good thoughts? Unbelievable!
Lucritia needs to get a mirror, look in it long and hard, and realize she doesn’t control the world. Get a grip.
You go, Connie!

Thanks Farrah. I never thought I’d cause such havoc when I was being honest about what I’d do with the prize. Wow, huh?
