• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

  • Still Celebrating Hope

I began to celebrate hope last night on Twitter, along with millions of others, anxiously waiting for the Presedential election results. I was even part of GNO, which is a Twitter group that meets on Tuesday nights (Girls Night Out) and the topic was the election. As time was went on though, I realized that I wanted to be alone to take in this momentous event in our country’s history and in my lifetime.

So I got away from Twitter and my computer, grabbed a bag of chips and lots of Halloween chocolate, turned on CNN and sat watching and listening. I switched back and forth to MSNBC and kept waiting, counting off electoral votes. My husband and Peanut were asleep. Lady Ali was in Kansas and we had spoken earlier on the phone.

As it got closer to 11 PM EST, I knew that there was a good chance that the winner would be announced. Those last few minutes were amazingly slow, but when I heard that Barack Obama had won the election I did burst into tears. I did wake up my 9 year old so she could hear the news. I did call my 21 year old so we could cry together, mumbling words that were hard to understand, but the meaning was clear.

Hope has arrived. It has arrived in my life, in my children’s lives, in my county’s life (even though Obama didn’t win here), in my state, Florida, where Obama did win and in my country. This hope has inspired me to continue to volunteer. I may change my goals though to see where I am needed now to help this country heal.

I am still celebrating hope for my country and for the world.

My daughter was enthralled with the election this year (she’s 10). She came with me to vote and watched the election coverage on NBC until it was her bedtime. When I woke her up for school yesterday morning, the first thing she said was, “Who’s our new President?” It’s been a while since I’ve been proud to be American. Today, I can honestly say that I am.
