If I Weren’t A Mom

If I weren’t a Mom, I’d be a bit more selfish and buy what I want for myself. I wouldn’t worry about needing to save money to pay for my older daughter’s wedding, helping her pay for her airline tickets to fly here for New Years, money for birthday and Christmas presents, more money for our home repairs, our younger daughters new clothes as she’s growing out of her old clothes and all of the million things we moms worry about.

Instead, I’d be buying clothes to replace my pants that I’ve had for over three years, new shoes that I desperately need, a new hand bag and a Gateway M-6843 Notebook that I want so I can blog from the comfort of my den, take with me when we travel and one day go on blogging conferences.

Even though I see that this laptop is on sale from Buy.com, I have to struggle not to purchase it. I have to fight the urge not to spend money on myself. I see that the price is only $499.99 with free shipping with a savings of $800.00. But, I’m a Mom and I think, instead that maybe one of my daughters can use this instead.  Yup, that’s the way that Moms think. Even when it comes to great sale items.

Drop some hints. Surely combined all those people you save for could come up with something?

… Unless that’s what this blog post is!

I could have written this post! It’s like I’m allergic to buying anything for myself … I’m riddled with guilt the few occasions that I actually do it. And I know I shouldn’t feel that way, that I deserve to treat myself to something every now and then. My husband has no problem with this! Even my kids think I should buy myself more things … that probably has something to do with my outdated wardrobe.

Oh I totally get it!! I’m the same way. I’m always buying for my kids and I feel guilty if I buy anything for myself, like a much-needed pair of sweats to work out in. I think you should either splurge and get the computer you want OR leave some hints for your husband. If he’s anything like my husband, he may not get subtle hints so you may have to tape the ad to the bathroom mirror with a little note that says “Honey, wouldn’t it be so awesome if we had this??”

Good for you! I think there are plenty of parents out there who don’t share your opinion, and that makes me sad.

I know exactly where you are coming for! I would love a laptop, but that money will probably go towards more stuff for the kids!

I agree, you should let your family know that this computer would be a great gift idea. Instead of giving stuff, they could contribute to this one practical, wonderful, thoughtful, and useful gift! I think it qualifies as a clutter-free gift.
