Sleeping Sickness

Yesterday I woke up and felt horrible. I had a sore throat and a terrible headache. But what was worst of all was that I couldn’t stay awake. I had been sick like this before but never to this degree.

This time I’d be sleeping but think I was awake. When I’d actually wake up, I’d lose my bearings because I thought the dream I was having was in real life because I wasn’t sleeping.

Thank goodness I was too tired to do anything about it, because I’d be kayaking, carrying large antique vessels, writing a book for a publisher, jumping into very deep water off of a cliff and running away from a fox. Those were just a few of the weird dreams I had yesterday. The funny thing was that I’d dream as soon as I closed my eyes. It didn’t take long for me to get into a deep sleep.

I swore I wouldn’t sleep last night, but that was no problem at all. I slept all night. The last dream I had before waking up this morning (and still feeling horrible) is that I was giving away the prize to my Sittercity Contest.

I did call my Primary Care Doctor to see about getting a prescription because I’ve been sick too long (I had a stomach virus last week too). We’ll see what she decides to do. I’m off to bed now to get more sleep.

I totally know what you are talking about, this spring I came down with some horrible flu type thing and noone else in the house got it, but during the day I was home alone with a 2 year old and COULDN’T stay awake, I would just keep drifting…

The first day was really bad, and I was worried for my little ones safety if I couldn’t stay up, the second day I felt NO BETTER, I ended up barricading us in her completely childproofed room with a small TV and with yogurt and granola parfaits for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch. Audra watched movies and played with her toys while I nodded off for a whole week. I felt bad but I couldn’t do much else.

Maybe sleep is what your body really needs. Sometimes wild dreams can happen if you are on certain medications too.

Have you started a new medication or changed a dose of an old one recently? Also, when I get fevers I get wild dreams, so maybe check to see if you are running a temperature. Whatever it is, I hope it passes quickly and you feel much better soon.

Sorry to hear you have been feeling bad. Do you by chance take melatonin pills for sleep? If by chance you do, it can effect some folks with strange dreams. Even though we naturally produce melatonin, most pills have 10-20 times more than you can produce and some of the effects can be weird—-
