Having both participated in NaNoWriMo and used Dragon, I definitely recommend getting Dragon early and training with it as much as possible. It can have good accuracy, but you have to enunciate very clearly and correct it when it's wrong. It takes some getting used to, and I definitely recommend having a clip-on mic. It's a good program but there's a definite learning curve. (Although what the program thinks has been said is sometimes amusing. :) )

And the point of NaNoWriMo isn't to write and edit the novel, it's just to get the first very rough draft done, or at least off to a very good start. Editing month is January, I think. ;)

There's no way you can reasonable write and edit a novel in one month if ther's anythign else you have to do with your life. Your muse runs out when you push yourself too hard.

I usually try to do the blog writing version of NaNoWriMo.

That Dragon software sounds interesting. I wonder how it is at screening out background noise? I always have people talking around me when I am writing. There is no such thing as silence in my house
