• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

  • My Mom Admitted It

September 22nd, 2008 by Connie Roberts

We picked up Mom from the port today. She told us that she had a nice trip. She made friends with three woman who she sat with at dinner. They spent time together doing some other things like taking in some shows, visiting the casino and chatting by the pool.

They exchanged phone numbers and addresses so one of them is planning to visit my Mom in the next few weeks. Mom doesn’t have a camera so her new friend will bring photos with her. She took pictures of the animal towels the cabin steward made for Peanut. See how my Mom is always thinking of others?

When we were alone though, Mom confided in me that she was lonely this time and felt a little afraid. She had a fall in the casino and people just walked past her until she asked someone for help. Then the people from the ship realized what happened and rushed over to her. Her arm was bleeding badly but she refused to go to the see the doctor on board. She was very embarrassed.

She said this is the last trip she’s taking on her own. I feel so badly for her. My once vibrant Mom is showing her age. I promised her that I’d go with her on another cruise along with Peanut. The problem is that we don’t have the money now as we’re saving for Lady Ali’s wedding. I hate putting things off like this. Unless we have a sudden landfall of money coming our way, there’s not much I can do. I know it’s not a tragedy but it weighs on my heart. I don’t like to say, “I should have”.

I’m so sorry that happened to your mom, Connie! I’m sure she wouldn’t want you to put yourself out financially to take a trip with her. Maybe you could suggest somewhere closer to home?

That is too bad for your mom. It is not easy to feel like we are losing our independence. I know what you mean about the funds. It seems like I say “after the wedding” all the time. Greg’s last few years of college have just about broke us.
