• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

  • Aye! Talk Like A Pirate

September 19th, 2008 by Connie Roberts

Pirate DayToday is Talk Like A Pirate Day. Did you take part in it?

At Peanut’s school the librarian was dressed as a pirate and had all kinds of pirate books out for the children to read. Her treasure chest was full of pirate goodies for those who read something to her, passed an AR test, looked at a picture book, or helped with some of the library chores.

I volunteered at the Book Fair again, so there were children with eye patches popping up saying, “Aaaarrrrgggghhhh” all over. I heard a few of the kidlets singing, “Yo Ho, Yo Ho” and I was told by one of the teachers that I had to “Walk the Plank”!

For a list of pirate speak, visit the Talk Like A Pirate Day blog. They explain how this day came about, provide links to event and have tons of photos, some which are quite funny. So if you forgot about today this year put this date on your calendar and bookmark this blog. And next year, you can hang your Jolly Roger and act like an Old Salt.

So the school was in on this sensation too! It was wildly popular on twitter yesterday. All of the arrrrghs and shiver me timbers was actually starting to become tiresome. I am glad to hear that the library got in on the act. What a wonderful way to encourage children to read.
