• About

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.

  • Job Hunting

August 27th, 2008 by Connie Roberts

We have a prayer list for my church and we are getting a lot of prayer requests for people who are looking for work. Where I live in Florida the main economy is home construction. The real estate market is almost non-existent now. People are not buying homes and the homes already built are either in foreclosure or being sold at very low prices. This means there is very little need for new homes to be built.

At one time this county was building and selling homes like crazy. We had a new highway built that led to Tampa. We were called a bedroom community. People lived here and worked in Tampa. Not any more.

On my street alone there are at least 8 houses for sale. There are 3 foreclosures around us (about 2 streets wide area). People are taking any kind of job they can find. A sales job search would be one of the most popular searches, along with cashiers, wait staff and anything in the medical field. These seem to be the types of work that are available now.

I hope and pray that our economy gets better and soon.

      Hi Connie,

The economy is at it’s lowest I’ve seen in a long time. :(

My son does carptentry work and his boss just set him up in his own construction business. Now how cool is that!? :D
So far, he’s managed to get a lot of job bids and a few small jobs here and there. Some concrete work, a small shed, etc….

But I’m worried that he has went into the wrong business due to how the economy is right now. He’s starting out pretty well. I’m praying he keeps getting bids and those small jobs do add up. ;)

My son’s business is in addition to his regular job. Carpentry and excavating.

As for job hunting, as you know…more and more people are working from home. I’m so fortunate to be able to stay at home and have an income coming in. :)
