Chore Charts

I’ve heard about chore charts for years now. I’ve used charts with my oldest daughter at an early age. She’s now 21. They’re still around and touted by many professionals including psychologists and teachers because they work.

I remember being at a meeting with parents from my church. When we began talking about helping children learn to get ready in the mornings by using a chore chart, a parent said that she didn’t want to start using charts because then she’d have to use them all of the time. She was under the impression that the chore chart became like bribery. Your child became independent with preparing for the morning but you continued to use the chart and reward the behavior.

That’s not the way that charts are used. Once your child learns the behavior, the reward is just that – the accomplishment. You no longer have to put stars on charts and reward for a row of stars. Then the chart is over and done with. You’ll find plenty more reasons to use charts though, believe me!

Using a website that has free printable charts is a great time saver. I’m not the creative mom on the block so having a place to chose from free designs is just what I like. ChoreCharts.com currently has seven charts but will be adding many more as well as a way for you to design your own.

Make your life easier, save your voice from repeating what your child has to do or not do and use a method that works – chore charts rock!
