Kids Can Drive You Crazy…It Happened Today

I love kids. I love their innocence, their curiosity, the ways they make me smile, the ways they try to make you love them, etc. I love helping at our church with children’s Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and other activities we have involving children. As long as I’m physically able to do it, I’ll give it my best.

I also enjoy volunteering at Peanut’s school. Today I spent most of the day helping at the Book Fair. I was tired and there were a lot of activities going on all at once today. There was Spring Fling, Ditch the Duds (no uniform), Mini Relay for Life and the last day before Spring Break and the last day of the Book Fair.

Many of them spent their money on candy, games, food, etc. So when they got to they Book Fair, they ended up being short of money and were quite hyper. The lowest price book we had was $2 plus tax. We did have some pencils, erasers and bookmarks that were 45 cents.

Most of what I did today was repeat to children, “You can’t buy a book with fill in the blank cents”. Then I’d show them the table of supplies with what they could purchase. I’d move on the next child. Do the same. Realize the first child walked away from the supply table and is holding up a hardcover book worth $19.99. Do it all over again. This went on all day.

I almost lost it, really. It was that bad. The poor Librarian was hiding out doing some other work. I don’t blame her. She had to do this all week. Other volunteers came in, but when I asked them to help they said they did a few days ago and were helping outside. It was funny because no one wanted to do this job!

It really wasn’t that bad. The children were sweet. They really showed interest in reading. That alone was worth it. And I did something to help out Peanut’s school. All in all, a good day.
