Maundy Thursday
March 20th, 2008 by Connie Roberts
Today is Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday. It is the day that Jesus and his disciples ate their last meal together before he was crucified. It is also the day that Jesus was arrested.
The word Maundy is from the Latin mandatum which means to give or command. This refers to the commandment that Jesus gave to his disciples: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34
Maundy Thursday is celebrated in many Protestant and Roman Catholic churches with the celebration of communion. It may also be accompanied by the ceremony of the washing of the feet, as Jesus washed his disciples’ feet in the gospel of John.
This is another day in the Easter Week which prepares believers for the holiest of days, the resurrection of Jesus.

I’m a wife and mom of two daughters. My daughters are 12 years apart so that keeps me quite busy and a little crazy at times. My life is a jumble of mixed up mishaps, but it’s always centered around my family.
