Don’t Put Off

I’m one of the worst procrastinators ever. I have wedding, new baby, birthday, sympathy cards, etc. All that should have been sent but are now stuck in a drawer. I have the guilt to go along with them. I owe people phone calls, emails, but thank goodness no money!

My worst vice is putting things off. I need to do something the nanosecond I think of it or it ends up in a pile of papers or in a file or lost. I don’t blame this on Brain Fog or my medical conditions. It’s just what it is.

Sometimes I think if I push it away it will actually go away. But it never does of course. It’s there all the time. And unless I’ve lost it, I’ll see it and the guilt bubble up to the surface. This is not a good feeling at all. This is a huge goal that I’ll be working on now that I’ve identified it. I’m going to do some research on why I procrastinate and ways to stop it.

I’ve written before about how I need to get more organized. This is a symptom of the larger problem though. It’s not the disorganization that causes me to forget.

A huge breakthrough for me. And something I’m going to start tonight by finding 2 articles on why people procrastinate. I’ll be writing about the process here. If you catch me not posting about it, call me on it, OK?

I, for one, will be looking forward to hearing the answer to this one! I’ve always been Johnny on the spot with things. In fact, I annoyed people with my “want it done and want it done now” mentality. Lately, however, I can’t force myself to do even the simplest, stupidest things. We won’t even touch on the big stuff like grocery shopping and coloring my hair!

I let things stack up too, then do everything at once. I’m really bad about that!

Just catching up after a lapse in reading blog posts.

Thing is you are obviously a motivated person who gets things done. For me the key was admitting I did it (do it) and adopting a strategy of do it now and if that’s really not possible – placing a physical reminder to do it as a priority. Ie. it’s the first thing I see when I wake up, or it’s between me and the tv remote.

Lists help too – to see things crossed off and to keep track with a foggy brain when it’s not always possible to do something right now if you haven’t got the right functions working.

I have discovered sometimes I procrastinate because I just don’t want to do it and sometimes it’s good to accept there are things in life I don’t want to do and to choose not to them instead of letting them bite me.

Hope you unlock the right solution for you :)
