With Valentines Day coming up this week my mind’s been in a whirl of memories about Hubby. I think with all I’ve been through last week and the news that Lady Ali will most likely be moving to Kansas I’m holding on to the past for a bit. All good stuff, happy thoughts only allowed though.
I was thinking back to our wedding and honeymoon. Hubby was still on active duty and stationed in Georgia so we had to have a quick wedding and time away. We didn’t even think we’d go any where as we were just assuming either my Mom or his parents would watch Lady Ali and we’d just get some alone time.
After our courthouse wedding (which actually was nice) we had a small get together at my Mom’s house. We were surprised with a wedding cake and a nice spread of food. And then even more surprised when my in-laws gave us a weekend away in Tampa along with tickets to a Lightning hockey game.
Grant it I only live about 90 miles from Tampa but to us this was very unexpected. We planned on making it as romantic as possible. On the drive there we spoke about things to do in Tampa. We knew we wanted to go to some nice restaurants and do something we’d both never done. We chose a nice restaurant for dinner and Hubby made that meal so special. He told the server that we were just married that day. We got some extra special service! Of course the hotel knew about us so when we checked in I was greeted by my married name and got some lovely flowers.
When we got to the room, Hubby told me to just sit down and he’d take care of everything. He unpacked for both of us and then set up a bath with candles he’d packed. Everything he did was just for me. I felt like a queen.
When we went to the hockey game the next night I got to enjoy something that he does very much. It was my first game ever so he explained the game to me, got me all kinds of food and of course a program. We even got something for Lady Ali (who at that time was 10).
Another thing we did was go to the dog races. I know it sounds funny but I’d never been to one and it seemed like something fun to do. If I said it, Hubby was all for it. My favorite part of our honeymoon though was going to MacDill Airforce Base. *Back then if you didn’t have ID you couldn’t get into the AAFES store. I remember having to sit on the benches outside while Hubby went shopping. But now that we were married (with our wedding license in tow) I got in to the store. It was like me telling the military that this man was mine!
I recently mentioned that we’re planning a long vacation to Niagara Falls. Since I like to plan in advance I’d like to sign up for Trusted Tours and Attractions newsletter to keep up to date on tickets for attractions we may have time to visit. When I sign up I can win a digital camera, learn how to save money on our trips and get some new family vacation ideas.
With traveling in my bones I enjoy keeping informed of what’s new and exciting to do.
*At MacDill AFB now, the base is a closed base on alert. You must show military ID to get on base so there’s no need to show ID to get into the base store.

I wish I could get married and have kids of my own, but the law in U.S. is so screwed up that people like myself can’t even dream of it. I mean, if I were to get married to someone with high income, I would lose all of my benefits and end up relying on my wife for health insurance, etc., unless I myself earn a lot. If I had high income, I wouldn’t need those benefits from the beginning anyway.
It’s so not fair, I tell ya…
