When We Gather

God loves you

Today was the day for our Chronic Illness Support Group. We met at my church and the group had the pleasure of meeting our new Pastor. He now only welcomed our group, prayed with us and spoke a bit on certain Scripture passages but he also entertained us with his wonderful singing and guitar playing.

You have to say guitar like this – gee-tar. We has a good laugh about this pronunciation. We are in a small area in Florida where there’s mostly people from up north. So it’s nice to hear some real southern speak.

Our Pastor spoke on 1 Corinthians 1:26 – 31. The main points he made that really touched us as people with chronic illnesses are that God chooses us when we are weak and broken, where we are, not as perfect people so that we can glorify Him. So many of us with illnesses that can change drastically from day to day feel like we want to do so much more but we’re not as able as before. This helps us to understand that whatever we do in His name is richly blessed!

We can pray for others, call people, send cards, pray for specific ministries in our churches or specific needs of our churches, but we can all do something. Even someone who is disabled that they cannot function mentally, or need assistance with basic care is here for a purpose.

This prompted our group to discuss these feelings and how to cope and feel more positive in our current situations.
