Will Spock become the latest craze in search engines? The difference with other high profile search engines is that Spock is a people search engine.
There’s a lot of potential with this application. Maybe you’re starting a new business and want to find someone you worked with a few years ago to hire as an adviser. Or you want to right a wrong with an old friend. You can even search for the latest news on your favorite Christian musician.
I just had to try out Spock. I did a search on Steven Curtis Chapman. He’s my favorite Christian music artist. This is what I got:
http://www.spock.com/q/steven-curtis-chapman
Look at the first result where you’ll notice there are 18 tags and two photos. Click on that entry and the tags and photos are open for you to continue clicking away. When you scroll down to the On the Web, you can find websites devoted to SCC’s music, his and his wife’s organization to help fund adoptions, a Wikipedia article about Steven and a few more sites to visit.
Spock uses technology to gather information. It gets it from all over the internet, but here’s the difference. Members can add to that information and vote on the info’s significance. As a member you can add people to this search engine. You can add new musicians who may not be getting the PR they deserve, a local hero, a Pastor who reaches out to your community, a doctor that treats you or your family, or yourself.
Just think of the possibilities! You can use Spock to add you and your business partner. This can help your business get a jump start. Trying to get the word out about a non-profit that is important to you? Add the Executive Director and the Board Members.
One of the really intriguing things I read on their site is that Spock makes use of member feedback. It has a Users Group, a blog, and a way to leave feedback. If there’s that many ways to get in touch with a site that makes it user friendly in my book.
Here’s another search I did on one of my favorite people:
