A girl’s prerogative

Peanut surprised me this morning with a change of heart about her Halloween costume. All along she wanted to be Ariel, the Little Mermaid. We have her dress, a wand with Ariel’s likeness on it, even a crown. We could buy some shoes if she wanted but she was pretty much set.

Now she’s thinking of being Hanna Montana. Geesh! What will she wear. She hates the feeling of tags on her clothes, of itchy material, of anything she considers that is uncomfortable. She says she wants a wig. I tell her she won’t wear it. It will feel itchy and hot. What about clothes? There’s costumes for her, she tells me.

I’m probably going to put my foot down on this one. We got her the Ariel dress when we treated her to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in Walt Disney World with the understanding that the dress would be for Halloween. I’m not going to spend more money on another costume….unless she does some things to earn her costume. And I have a huge list of chores she can do. So we’ll see.
