VBS – Vacation Bible School is a fun and exciting time for any church. It’s so wonderful to see children enjoy learning about the Bible and about Jesus. Every year it brings tears to my eyes when they all get together on the stage and sing their hearts out and recite verses.
It’s also a lot of work, a whole lot. The team that has to prepare especially the Childrens’ Ministry Leader is the one that feels the most stress. The first night is when everything either comes together or falls apart. You can feel the tension in the air as the children arrive and register.
For the teachers, helpers, and any of the adults or youth that help out the whole week seems like a whirlwind of excitement. Children are all over the place, not sure of where to go. We guide them to their rooms where they learn their lessons, the rest rooms and the fellowship hall for crafts and snacks.
Planning lessons and knowing that you desperately want to keep the children’s attention can cause teachers of Sunday School, Children’s Church or even elementary school’s knees buckle. The person who makes the snacks has to worry about food allergies, having enough snacks on hand and wondering if the children will even want to eat the food!
All of us have worries and concerns but the children always have a good time. They make friends easily, learn about Jesus and how to love him and make it all worthwhile in the end.
Another VBS is done!
