Office Depot – Tops in Customer Service

I bought a new monitor last December from Office Depot. It’s a nice large one that really helps with my eyesight. There was a rebate that made this particular monitor the best deal for me. I followed all the rules for the rebate, even made copies of everything that was sent and registered for it online.

The rebate was accepted. I got the email that also said to keep checking back on the status of my rebate. I kept checking for months. By March it finally said that this was a third party rebate and the company wouldn’t be sending me my $80! What? There was an address for the company and no further explanation.

To be honest I really didn’t want to deal with the third party company. I figured it was going to be a big hassle. So I contacted Office Depot. First I was told to wait a month longer. I think they were trying to negotiate with the company on their buyers’ behalf (I’m not sure if that’s correct because I can’t fully remember the details).

I waited. I had to buy something at our local Office Depot and spoke to the manager about this situation. He said to go ahead and try writing to the company. If I could prove that he might be able to help me out even though I ordered online. Cool!

Just a few weeks ago I got a letter from Office Depot. In it was the $80 check, a $5 gift card and a coupon for $10 off any purchase of $50 or more. Chuck S. Rubin, President, North American Retail of Office Depot stated that the company decided to “satisfy the outstanding rebates itself”.

I am will remain a loyal customer to Office Depot. I like the way they handled this issue. It’s reassuring to know tha I am valued as a customer.

I worked at OD for four years during my undergrad days and while it was just like working at a lot of retail stores, they really do care about the customers and that is a big focus for all their employees… it may not always look like it, but they do try to make people happy so they will come back.
