Flying Ace But I’ll Stick to the Beach

Navy Lieutenant Commander Kevin Davis of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, a pilot of the Blue Angels died on April 21 during an air show in Beufort, South Carolina. His nickname was Kojak and he loved flying.

The closest I’ve been to seeing the Blue Angels was time spend at the Naval Air Station Navy Lodge in Pensacola, FL. There are some good things about being married to a military man. This was one of the best. We got to see the Blue Angels practice almost every day while we were there. Plus we were right on the beach, had a kitchen in our room and it was so cheap! I hope to visit there again and this time rent a cottage.

Getting back to Lt. Davis. I went to one air show in my life. I’m afraid to go to another. You always read about and hear about on tv that planes crash and pilots die. I know…there’s thousands of air shows a year but you only hear about the crashes. Still, no thanks. I don’t want to have a memory of a plane going down etched into my brain for the rest of my life.

God Bless You Lt. Davis and your family. He served our country in Operation Enduring Freedom. Thank you and God Speed.

Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Davis

  1. I hadn’t even heard about this one. But then, the boy has been sick and that means hours upon hours of nothing but kiddie movies and no news. My dad’s property borders an airport and planes are constantly flying over the house. When there’s an air show, they keep a keen eye on the sky! I once asked just what he thought he was going to be able to do if a plane were to head straight for the house and he looked me dead in the eye, without so much as a smirk and said, “Run like hell.” I like air shows, but mostly just walking around and looking at the planes. I could do without all the showing off, but that’s what these people live for. And sometimes die for. Never understood it myself.
